ناشدت 27 منظمة لحرية التعبير وحقوق الإنسان، فريق الأمم المتحدة العامل المعني بالاحتجاز التعسفي بشأن الاحتجاز التعسفي المستمر للمواطن المصري البريطاني والناشط والكاتب علاء عبد الفتاح؛ الحائز على العديد من الجوائز، لدى السطات المصرية.
وفي نوفمبر 2023، تقدمت المنظمات بخطاب لفريق الأمم المتحدة العامل المعني بالاحتجاز التعسفي (UNWGAD)، بشأن النداء العاجل الذي كانت قد قدمته مجموعة من المنظمات للفريق، نيابة عن علاء عبد الفتاح، والذي يمثله فريق من المحامين الدوليين بقيادة المحامي جان يجينسو.
وقالت المنظمات في البيان: “نكتب إليكم الآن للاستفسار عما إذا كان هناك أي تحديث فيما يتعلق بهذا النداء العاجل، ومدى إمكانية اعتماد فريق الأمم المتحدة المعني بالاحتجاز التعسفي لرأي فيما يتعلق بقضية علاء عبد الفتاح”.
وأضاف البيان “لقد أمضى علاء عبد الفتاح سنوات في السجن في مصر، على خلفية اتهامات متعلقة بكتاباته وأنشطته، ورغم كونه مواطنا بريطانيا؛ إلا أنه لا يزال محروما من الزيارات القنصلية”.
وأوضح البيان “أن احتجازه التعسفي المستمر يثير قلقًا بالغًا لدى منظماتنا”.
وتابع البيان:” بناء على ذلك، نؤكد مرة أخرى على تبنينا للنداء المقدم إلى فريق العمل المعني بالاحتجاز التعسفي في 14 نوفمبر 2023، ونحث فريق العمل مرة أخرى على النظر بعين الاعتبار في هذا النداء، بموجب إجراءات التدخل العاجل، وإصدار رأيه في قضية علاء عبد الفتاح في أقرب فرصة ممكنة”.
